Here's how the phenomenon
began...
Youth Radio came screaming into Sydney known as Hitz FM, a sister
of Melbourne's station of the same name. Like Melbourne, the youth
dance market in Sydney just wasn't being catered for, and things
had to change. The first test broadcast happened for 30 days in
Nov - Dec '96, on temporary community license 96.9 FM. The effect
was amazing finally kids all over the city had something
energetic and uplifting to go off to. This new station was playing
music they loved and could relate to! Hitz returned for another
test broadcast in May '97, renamed itself Wild FM, and planted
roots firmly in Sydney's youth culture.
Since then, there have been further test broadcasts in August '97,
November '97, March '98, June '98 & on August '98 broadcasted on 94.5 FM.
Because of the on again/off again nature of Wild's airtime,
a series of CD's have been released to keep our listeners
happy while Wild FM is off the air. The Wild series has gone gold,
proving just how much Sydney's kids, and others around the country,
are into this music.
Wild is staffed by its own demographic - young volunteers who
love the music, love the atmosphere and give loads of energy and
hard slog to make the station happen. Wild is run for the youth,
by the youth, keeping the sound fresh and happy and the content
relevant to the young and those who haven't really grown up yet.
